That's a problem because it can more than double the risk of heart attack, stroke or other cardiovascular problem even among women who take hormone replacement therapy.The average age for menopause is 51, and a study started in 2000 involved more than 2,500 women between 45 and 84 to learn more about early menopause. Almost 28 percent of the women in the study reported early menopause; 18 percent had natural menopause and 10 percent went into menopause when their ovaries were removed.Before age 55, no woman in the study had angina (chest pain), a heart attack or stroke, heart bypass surgery or a suddenly stopped heart. After 55, women who had early menopause were more likely to have had at least one of these problems than women who did not experience early menopause.
