These days, everybody wants to be seen as an authority in their niche as they reckon it'll bring in more sales
. But building authority usually takes time. Here are some ideas.1 Be unique. You have to lead yourself first, otherwise you're simply following someone else, no matter how much you might deny it. Know what you want through your business and become an authority in getting it. If you don't know what you want, you're easily misled.
2 Use the technology. People need to know you and your business exist, and what you have to say and sell. So distribute your content, including referrals to your business and products, where you can. Use an ezine, articles, blog, free sites like Squidoo(TM), podcasts and videos.
3 Be consistent. By being consistent you gain trust for yourself and your products. You need to do this through your attitudes and actions. You will have points of view others will disagree with but if they're in a larger consistent framework of how you operate, then those points of view will not go against others seeing you as an authority.
4 Think and use the total context you're working in. For example, using social sites should be seen as merely one part of a total pattern of processes you have in place, and not become an end in itself.
5 Give value and give as much as you can. Obviously, you don't want to give away your most valuable products but see what limits you can get up to without endangering your business and, in fact, leads to more sales. People see authority figures as valuable, so make it clear exactly where the value lies for them in your materials.
