How To Beat Those Winter Blues

How To Beat Those Winter Blues

Christmas is over, the relatives have all gone home to wherever it was they came from

, the turkey has well and truly been picked to the bone and the New Years resolutions have already been broken. So what exactly do we have to look forward to? Well the adverts have been hitting our television screens since Boxing Day; its time to start thinking about our annual holidays, and the sooner we can get away, the better. Thomsons will be building holidays with us in mind, First Choice will be reminding us just how many kids they taught to swim last year, and of course, theres the old favourite dont just book it by you know who

So where do we start, and where should we go? Well if youre looking for something fairly early in the year and looking for a bit of winter sun, then holidays to Tenerife would be a perfectly good place to start.

A Spanish territory, Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and lies just off the coast of west Africa. The island attracts young and old, families and groups, and singles and romantics alike to it sunny shores and diverse landscapes.

In the north of the island, where it can sometimes be slightly cloudier, vegetation is lush and verdant, banana plantations flourish and the stunning coastline is rocky and dramatic. The south of the island is more desert like and has a lunar like landscape with black volcanic sands mixed with imported golden grains on its many popular beaches. How To Beat Those Winter Blues

At the centre of the island is the impressive Mount Teide volcano, forming the highest peak in the whole of Spain at 3,817m in total. Snow tipped in winter months it offers fantastic views and is visible from all over the island. Surrounded by the stunning Mount Teide National Park whose walking trails are carved into the earth by previous eruptions, the scenery here is absolutely beautiful.

You will use the Euro whilst on holidays to Tenerife, and although it is not particularly strong against the pound, you will find that some bars and restaurants have special offers and happy hours to help your holiday money stretch that little bit further. You may prefer your holidays to Tenerife to be all inclusive, in this case you will find some wonderful hotels with excellent facilities, childrens clubs if you need them, great entertainment and usually fantastic stretches of private beach.

You can choose from quiet traditional resorts on your holidays to Tenerife or vibrant party towns like Playa de las Americas. Los Cristianos is a favourite with water sports enthusiasts and to the north of the island, Puerto de la Cruz has a charming old fashioned outlook with plenty of modern facilities.

So as the New Year bells ring, get ready to banish those winter blues and book your holidays to Tenerife to make sure you start 2010 with a bang.
