With Christmas approaching and many a Christmas parties to be had, it is sadly common for driving offences to take place. The season of goodwill and cheeriness, it is thetimes of the year that people have that extra' drink at the Christmas party as do the Police who tighten up their patrols prosecuting those who attempt the drive home. Not that you needed warning, here is a list of prosecutions on offer should you break the law;
Speeding
As we all know, Christmas parties can go on pretty late and this is the time that most get caught breaking the speed limit on their home. A lot of the time, drivers will ignore the speed limitdue to a lack of other traffic on the roads meaning more drivers will go over the speed limit. If a driver is caught speeding, they can risk a fine and points on their license and in some cases you could face a disqualification for 6 long months.
Speeding prosecutions in the UK have increased sevenfold with the number of speed cameras increasing heavily. 2006 saw 5,500 speed cameras on the road, not to mention various other devices used to target speeding motorists, including the LTI 20:20 Laser Gun.
Dangerous Driving
Christmas ultimately means shopping and lots of it and therefore shopping laden cars can prove a real distraction to drivers. Mobile phone Offenses
There are a variety of ways you can be prosecuted against for a mobile phone offence including;
- Holding/ using a phone when driving.
- Making/ receiving a call or even sending a text, even if fleetingly.
The penalty of using a mobile phone whilst drivingcan be up to 2,500 fine, disqualification and points on your license. Moral of the story is- use the hands-free kit.
Drink Driving
Attemptinga drive when you are over the limit can meanextremely serious implications. A driving ban can mean the loss of your job; effects on any personal relationships, the loss of a car and even a criminal record.
Penalties for drink driving can include up to 12 months disqualification or 3 years for a second offence within 10 years. Fines of up to 5,000imprisonment/community service may also apply.
