American Made Gun Safes
Gun owner's realize the importance of gun safety, so it is important that when purchasing a safe they buy only American Made Safes. There are many different reasons for this. For one thing, you are buying from hard working people in the USA. Any products made in the USA are built to the highest quality standards with rigorous testing principles that other countries don't do. The quality of materials, as well as the craftsmanship of safes that are American made are top of the line, assuring they have the best burglary and fire ratings you can buy. This means that buying just one safe can last through a lifetime of use.
Starting around the early 90's a lot of safe manufacturers turned their attentions to the Far East. There were many reasons for the decision to be made to have Gun Safes manufactured overseas, cheaper labor, lower material's costs, and more profits have now made more than 75% of the safes constructed today from overseas. While it did improve a company's bottom line as well as their profits margin, it also dramatically reduced the quality of these safes, as well as drove out much of the competition. Those companies that kept their business in America had to reduce their production, lay off many employees, which put a lot of hard working Americans out of work.
Share: Unfortunately most people who buy gun safes don't really know the different between one that is made here in the United States and one made in china or some other Eastern Country. On the outside, the look may remain the same, but it isn't until a closer inspection of the construction of the safe itself, the insulation and building materials used, that you can really start to see the flaws.
The first thing to really understand about a high quality, American Made safe is the quality of steel that goes into a safe. Many of the safes that are manufactured and imported from overseas are up to 35% softer than steel made in the USA. This is mostly because we have gotten the making of steel products down to a science, with stronger steel, it takes a longer process. One of the biggest problems with using non American softer steel is that a safe made from these materials is more vulnerable to tampering. These materials also don't function as well under harsh conditions, meaning they are going to be more susceptible to damage from fire, and break down in a shorter period of time.
Speaking of fire damage, here is another area where American Made safes are much better that buying from overseas manufacturers. Insulation is a big part of fire safety and prevention when it comes to a safe, whether it is gun safes, or media and document safes. Fire board, also known as drywall is the most common insulation for keeping out fires and heat damage. It is quite well known that drywall made from China is not only of much less quality, but may still contain ingredients such as asbestos that are known for their health problems. Fire board Made in America is produced in much higher standards, and poses little or no health risks at all.
The next big difference between a foreign safe and one Made in America is body construction. Any safe you buy has six sides, but how they are put together is really what makes the difference. In foreign made safes, these sides are all separate, and then welded together. After, the welds are ground down to make it look more appealing. The problem here is that not only are all of these pieces of different thicknesses, but this is made more of a problem because they will also have a tendency to have thinner edges. American Made safes are constructed using much different methods, the main one being that the four sides that make up most of the body is constructed by taking one piece of steel and bending it to a box shape. This means that the metal is one piece, and the thickness of the sides are all one. This uni-body construction makes the safe much tougher and harder to penetrate.
Share: The next part of the safe that is important is the bolt work of the safe. This is the internal workings of the safe, the pieces that make up the locking mechanism. Again, referring to the softer steel that is made in China, these workings are just not as sturdy as steel workings made in the USA. This means that between the shoddy construction, the thinner more hazardous fire board, and the weaker internal workings, these safes are much more prone to be broken into or fail in a fire.
Perhaps one of the most important aspects of buying an American Made gun safe is the warranty. While many claim to have a warranty, not all are the same. While the details of all the warranties would fill an article in themselves, suffice it to say that safes that are made overseas are simply not made from the quality of materials to offer a true Lifetime Warranty, which is really what you are looking for in a safe. A lifetime warranty would include replacement of the product due to burglary or other natural disaster. You really have to look at the fine print when it comes to these warranties.
A gun safe is and investment of a lifetime. While anyone buying a safe may have a certain budget, it is important that you buy a safe that is going to last a lifetime, It might be a little more expensive initially to buy an American Made Safe, but when it comes to protecting your valuables it is better to have real security, and if you help mantain jobs locally that's a wondefull added satisfaction.
