, Fuamulaku is the Maldivian solitary isle of resplendence. Fruit such as pineapples, pond-apples and various types of bananas are also cultivated here in addition to vibrant fern and spinach varieties.
Other highlights include visits to the islands many historic sites including the famed Fua Mulaku Havitta where the ancient ruins of a Buddhist stupa are found. Dating back to the pre-Islamic period in the countrys history, the ruins consist of a 40 foot high hill and an adjoining mound of 15 feet. The Vasho-Veyo bath complex is worth the visit as the circular bath is an architectural marvel that encompasses porites coral stone carvings. The ancient stone pool complete with stone steps is testament to local ingenuity and creativity as the hirigal stone cuttings are exquisite even today. The Gemmiskki coral stone mosque is another must-see as it is believed to be the oldest surviving mosque on the island.
Visitors who come during the southwest monsoon season can also witness the flying fish (Hulhammaha) natural phenomenon on the north-western coastline of the island. A colourful local festival of grand proportion, the event involves catching flying fish that are caught in their hundreds by hand in the region between Dhadimago fanno and Thoondu.
