Traveling Around Australia On Your Sydney Holiday

Traveling Around Australia On Your Sydney Holiday

Travel around Australia is a very unique experience and can be one that is a bit intimidating to those who choose to take a holiday in this region

. Perhaps one of the main reasons is that most of the Aussie population lives and works within the major cities which leaves a lot of land mass that is relatively uninhabited.

If, for instance, you are on a Sydney holiday you will probably be staying in one of this cities lovely hotels or resorts. Surrounded by a lot of people deep in the heart of the city, you will very rarely find yourself alone anywhere within the city limits. Once you drive out of the city however there will be a few scattered towns and mostly uninhabited land which makes the terrain when venturing off a major highway a little difficult to navigate.

Some of the issues that tend to affect travelers involve just sticking with the rules of the road. In Australia drivers travel on the left hand side of the road and speeds for highway travel are usually between 100-110kph while in more populated areas they are about 50-60kph. Interstate highways are much less traveled then in other regions of the world and are therefore a lot less populated both day and evening then most people are used to.

Although a lovely area to travel through, it is important to realize some general rules since this region is so spread out. Be sure to bring plenty of water with you when you travel as due to the heat dehydration can occur quickly. Drivers should make sure to stop at regular intervals so as not to become too fatigued or fall asleep, there are refreshment stations located along the main roads so that driver's can take a break.

Watch out for animals. When you are driving especially at night it is commonplace to come across some kangaroos or cattle and these creatures are very large. If your vehicle does become disabled for some reason then it is a good idea to pull over, call for help with your cell phone, and always stay with your vehicle. In a desolate area you are much wiser to stay with your vehicle as this will be simpler for passersby to spot and you will get help more quickly. Never venture off into the wilderness as this could be deadly.
