Creswick along with Ballarat is a town that was established during the Victorian Gold Rushes in the 1850s. Before the white settlement the area was inhabited by the Wemba-Wemba and today the local industries include grazing, forestry and agriculture. Creswick is also infamous for the New Australasia Gold Mine Disaster which occurred on 12th December 1882, which was Australias worst mining accident in which 22 men drowned.

Creswick is famous for the original School of forestry which was established in 1910 by the Department of Forestry. This was set up to train and accredit young foresters. Today this campus is a part of the University of Melbourne. Creswick has three primary schools, two government schools and one Catholic school. Creswick Primary School, Creswick North Primary School and St Augustines are highly respected schools here. There is a great quality golf course at the Forest Resort on the Midland Highway.

The Tangled Maze

This is a great family spot to enjoy a bit of hide and seek as this unusual maze is grown from thousands of climbing plants. You can even enjoy mini golf, bocce and explore the Mistydowns Nursery Caf.

Creswick Woolen Mills

These mills were founded in 1947 and are now the only coloured woolen spinning mill of its particular type in Australia. It produces glorious natural fabrics including the Australian Merino Wool, Alpaca, Cotton & Cashmere and even blankets and throws.

St Georges Lake. Koala Park and Slatey Creek

St Georges Lake is a famous lake where water activities, picnics and barbeques are held very often. It was originally a mining dam whose water was used by the Creswick State Battery for the purpose of crushing quartz. The Koala Park has many walkways where Australias marsupials can be spotted and Slatey Creek is great if you want to plan a bush picnic or a short stroll.

Creswick Museum

This museum houses an impressive collection of local art and relics depicting the history of the region and is beautifully presented in the old Town Hall.
