Once you get to the Turkana District, you will cross the Chalbi desert to the Lake Turkana. This is the largest desert lake in the world. It is about 288 km up to the Kenya/ Ethiopia border. This place is scorching hot and the heat is unbearable. All you can see for miles is volcanic rock and the desert sand. Once you arrive at the Loyangarani Palm Shade, you will set camp at the traditional Turkana huts around. This is a very good place to relax as the huts protect you from the scorching sun. Late in the afternoon when the sun is not so hot, you will be able to visit the lake. You will later return to the camp where you will have diner and stay over for the night. The following day in the morning after breakfast, you can choose to either hire a boat to tour the surrounding areas or just relax around with the local Turkana tribesmen. In the evening, you can choose to visit one of the Turkana manyattas around and enjoy traditional Turkana dances and music. Make sure to visit the smallest tribe in Kenya, the Elmolo and learn something about there culture. The Lake Turkana formerly known as Lake Ludolf is home to the largest Nile Crocodiles in the world. It is also known as the Jade sea because of the way the water surface changes color from green to jade and bright blue depending on the winds. You can have e boat ride in the evening before going back to the camp for a meal and overnight stay.
