Prevent the Avoidable Accidents Caused by Slips and Trips

Share: There have been many advertisements on Television
, Radio and print asking us if we've had a trip or fall at work that wasn't our fault, whilst these are often linked with the many personal injury solicitors services that seem to have cropped up they should also be regarded as timely reminders to employers and companies to make sure that their own workplace is appropriately safe for employees to avoid these companies knocking at their own door.
Slips and falls are often caused by similar situations, one of these is a wet floor, whether it is a recently cleaned shiny surface or a drink has been spilled any liquid dropped on your floors should be cleaned up immediately if you want to avoid the costly compensation payments that an employee would be entitled to if they were to slip and fall.
Obviously some people may not notice that they have caused a hazard and so a sizeable percentage of these accidents waiting to happen are not cleared up right away. There isn't always a mop and bucket or bunch of paper towels to hand but there are other ways that wet floors can be made apparent, you can purchase wet floor safety signs that warn pedestrians that if the floor is wet then it can be slippery. Some signs that are regularly used by janitors stands on its own which can be placed over the spillage to make it abundantly clear that the floor is wet.
The floor being wet is not the only hazard that can cause trips and falls though, in the winter especially the winter we have had this year, ice and snow can make walking on the paths pretty treacherous, compacted snow can refreeze and become as dangerous as pure ice so you need to be careful that any pathways and even car parks are cleared of snow and ice. Obviously rock salt is the most common cure to this problem but there are other products that can quickly melt ice to make pathways safe to walk on again.

Share: Wires and cables may be present in your workplace and can trail across walkways and can act as trip wires in your workplace, make sure all cables are kept out of the way or use cable runners to cover them so that pedestrians as well as wheeled objects such as pallet trucks or trolleys can safely pass over them.
It is worthwhile going round your premises to check for any potential hazards such as these to make sure your employees and your business in general are safe from harm.
Ensure you keep your business and employees safe with
grit bins and
safety signs to keep your floors safe.
