Known as the Queen of the Hills and ideally so, Mussoorie is located 35kms away from Dehra Dun and approximately 290 kms from the countrys capital Delhi. 7000 feet above sea level with the Himalayas towering above, Mussoorie is a place abundant in beauty, flora and fauna making it one of the most popular and sought after tourist spots in India.
The history of Mussoorie dates back to the year 1827, when an English officer Captain Young came across this picturesque town and was spellbound by its beauty. And since then, Mussoorie has garnered immense popularity. Its lush green meadows, quaint valleys, cool climate and rich colonial history attract tourists from all across the world.
There are a number of places to visit in Mussoorie, like the Camels Back Road which is a stretch of rocks that give it a shape of a camels hump or back. The sun set view from this location is pure bliss.

Jwalaji Temple is one of the most revered temples in Mussoorie and is dedicated to Goddess Durga. It is located atop the Benog hill amidst thick forests.
Gun Hill is the second highest peak in Mussoorie. It provides a poetic and paradisiacal view of the Himalayas, the Gangotri and a breathtaking view of entire Mussoorie and parts of Dehra Dun. Its a great getaway.
Sir George Everests House is an estate, laboratory and abode of the late first surveyor general of India, Sir George Everest. The Highest peak in the world The Mount Everest is named after him. The view from this vantage point is not to be missed, with the Doon valley on one side and the Himalayan ranges on the other along with some old colonial remains.

On your way to Mussoorie, you can also visit Dehra Dun which is also the Capital of the state of Uttarakhand. The city is not only famous for its schools and institutes but also for its ideal setting. Located in the Doon valley, surrounded by the Himalayas, the river Ganges passes Dehradun from the east while the River Yamuna flows by from the west. There are many important places to visit in DehraDun. The Char Siddhs, the four religious and sanct places to be visited in one visit enabling the wishes of the tourist to come true as is so believed. The four Siddhs are Laxman Siddh, along Dehradun on the Rishikesh Road, Kalu Siddh, near Baniyawala, Manak Siddh near Shimla bypass road and Madhu Siddh in Premnagar. Dont forget to visit the Chetwood Hall, known as the Pride of the IMA. This hall was named after Field Marshal Sir Philip W. Chetwood, who inaugurated the academy on Dec 10, 1932.
If you are planning a trip to this tourist paradise, then its best to visit Mussoorie between the months of April and July. Or even better would be from September to November as its spring time in mussoorie making the Himalayas more visible than ever.
