Mayor Borris Urges Better Fox Control For London

Share: During one summer night two twin baby girls were mauled in their sleep by a fox which
climbed in through a window that had been left open to keep their room cool during a hot summer night. The attack as prompted London Mayor Boris Johnson to come out and say that local councils should 'focus on their duties for pest control'. Although fox attacks are very rare and this is in fact the first recorded case on record in London the panic has of course made its way to Londoners.
Lola and Isabella Koupparis both aged just 9 months were found covered in blood and crying upstairs in their bedroom. The fox had gone into their upstairs bedroom and attacked them in their cots in Hackney east London.
The twins were then taken to the Hospital in east London after the incident on the night however Isabella was moved to Great Ormond Street Hospital further treatment.
Mayor Johnson said that foxes were a pest and a menace and could in rare circumstances pose a threat to humans. He also says 'Therefore it's right that boroughs should focus on their duties for pest control because as romantic and cuddly as a fox is it is also a pest'

Share: The mother of the children Pauline Koupparis found the tots looking 'like something from a horror movie' after the mauling and described it as 'like a living nightmare'.
It is thought that the fox crept in through a ground floor door that was left open because of the hot weather while Mrs Koupparis and her husband Nick watched Britain's Got Talent on television.
After the attack on the children they couple hired pest controllers to set fox traps in their back garden. After a fox was found in one of the devices it was humanely destroyed by a vet.
In an article in The Independent Mayor Boris spoke in favour of fox control. 'Councils should focus on their duties regarding pest control' he said.
Animal lovers are torn on the subject of fox control, these animals appear cute and harmless and in general cause no bother to humans, but if they are starting to attack humans and children then something needs to be done about the issue and perhaps fox control is the best way forward. There are humane ways with dealing with foxes and if they are getting to be a bother on your property then you might need to call in a pest controller to take a look at the issue and perhaps find a way of getting the foxes to move on to new territory. Some believe that foxes should be culled because they are mating a lot more than usual or all the time and because of this the problem is getting out of control.
An urban fox can play havoc with your garden areas. Foxes can cause damage to lawns they are attracted by the presence of invertebrate turf pests. When foxes establish an earth, bury food and so on flower beds and vegetable patches can be disturbed. If given an opportunity foxes will easily and often kill or take small domestic pets like rabbits, birds, guinea pigs and kittens. Foxes unlike many other predators tend to kill more than they need to eat immediately. They may return to your garden to get any uneaten corpses. If you have a small domestic animal it should really be securely protected with galvanised weld mesh or possibly by some electrified fencing. Sadly chicken wire is not great protection as it was designed to keep chickens in rather than to keep predators out.
