Keep Your Valuables Safe on Holiday

For many holidaymakers the thought of taking valuables such as expensive jewellery, electricals and family heirlooms on holiday is completely unthinkable, but for other holidaymakers, the prospect of leaving such loved and valued belongings behind is too painful, and they simply must pack them in their suitcase. While it may be highly unlikely that you will be the victim of theft on holiday, it's always worth preparing for the very worst, so if you have no other option than to take precious belongings on holiday with you, then here are some tips for how to keep things safe during your time abroad.

Use Your Head

Don't advertise your belongings to other people, especially if they are worth a lot of money. This means that you need to keep a close eye on all your treasured belongs while you're on holiday. Never leave any belongings behind in public, such as at the hotel, restaurants, clubs or bars, and never ask someone else to look after your bag, this just leaves you open to theft and heartbreak. Keep your bag with you at all times, especially when you're in a busy public place

Use the Hotel Safe

Many hotels have a safe that guests are allowed to use for valuable items, such as jewellery and documents. When booking a hotel, find out if they have such a resource available and ask if there is any charge for using this service, while use of the hotel safe is usually free of charge for guests, it's best to find out before you leave or the extra charge may come as a bit of a shock. Some more exclusive or upmarket hotels may have safe available in each guest's room, so if you'd really like to keep your belongings close to you, check and see if you can find a hotel that has this feature in your chosen destination.

Insurance, Insurance, Insurance

Many travellers neglect to take out travel insurance before they go on holiday, so make sure you're not caught out by this if the very worst should happen. Insure yourself and your most precious items against accidental damage, theft or loss and your items could be replaced free of charge to you. Make sure that you report any losses, thefts or otherwise to the police as you will need to fill out a police report, to help with your insurance claim.

Thefts on holiday are quite rare, but if the absolute worst should happen, make sure that you've taken steps to protect yourself by booking special insurance when booked your Tenerife holiday.
