Aylesbury is an attractive residential town with a large number of small businesses, as well as larger chain stores. It has one of the lowest levels of unemployment in the UK, making it a popular place to live and work. A thriving market town for centuries, there are still markets held here several times a week, with agriculture continuing to play an important role in the local economy. Aylesbury's best known export has been its famous white ducks, one of which forms the town's emblem. Sadly, the Aylesbury duck fair is no more, though the breed itself can be found across England - it's most famous incarnation was as Beatrix Potter's Jemima Puddleduck.
Aylesbury's population has doubled since the 1960s, and a number of new developments have been built in recent years, with more to follow though the conservation area around Queen's Park and St Mary's has been protected. Suburban Aylesbury now encroaches on several neighbouring towns and villages, including Stoke Mandeville, Hartwell, Stone, Broughton and Weston Turville. We at Holiday Inn Aylesbury are located at the centre of this group of towns, with easy access to Stoke Mandeville Hospital and other local employers, making our business facilities a valuable resource, not just for Aylesbury but surrounding districts too. In recent years, Aylesbury has become a major focus for growth and investment, with a major new regeneration plan in the canalside area. The new 1,500-seat Waterside theatre opened its doors in October 2010, and an extensive new retail and leisure area is in the pipeline. It is hoped this redevelopment of the town's old industrial areas will generate 21,500 new jobs.
Share: The cultural side of Aylesbury
Aylesbury has a number of lively pubs, bars and restaurants, as well as an eclectic mix of retail outlets. One of its most stunning modern buildings is the Blue Leanie, an award-winning glittering high-rise tower block housing the headquarters of several major companies.
However, Aylesbury has an older, more cultural side too, with several heritage buildings of note. Its civic buildings include a Victorian County Gaol and Union Workhouse (today a mental hospital.) The town also has a number of fine churches making our meeting rooms at Holiday Inn Aylesbury a popular choice for weddings. Our spacious suites have room for up to 150 guests, with a superb backdrop the beautiful Vale of Aylesbury and the Chiltern Hills. We at Holiday Inn Aylesbury are the perfect choice whether you're planning a team exercise, a product launch or a family get-together.
