Foam Vs Spring: Which Is Better?

You hear people greet one another come bed time to sleep tight. But do you even have an idea of the reason behind the term? Sleeping tight sounds not comfortable at all but it is delivered with the intention of utter sleep satisfaction. Actually, it did not really mean a comfortable sleep. Rather, it is used to wish someone a long and continuous sleep resulting from a sturdier bed.

Before the introduction of thick foam sheets during the 80s, beds are originally manufactured using ropes stretched so hard that they prevent the bed from sinking. The flatter the surface, the better the slumber you can get. Now, most people opine otherwise.
Foam Vs Spring: Which Is Better?

As ropes became obsolete, springs replaced the favored material and became a staple in all beds. As a matter of fact, it is still used today together with layers of foam sheets and fibers. In spite of the comfort a spring can offer, many manufacturers resorted to producing pure foam beds as another option in lieu of the already existing layered bed structure. What are the differences among the two? Which is better?

1. Structure

Spring is used together with other materials. It serves as the catcher of the pressure and weight, and gives extra softness at the same time. But a spring is not the sole material in bed production. No one likes to sleep over pure spring after all. Foam comes to the scene with this. As one of the layers, it gives additional softness and protection against the spring as well.

Foam on the other hand, can also give the comfort a bed with springs can offer but it depends on the thickness and material used. If it is just a regular foam, then it is far from giving you the ultimate comfort that you may be after upon buying spring beds.

2. Price

Since spring bed has a more intricate structure and better usage, it apparently comes with a heftier price. Foam is naturally cheaper since you are paying solely for a material that is just a part of another bed. If you are on a tight budget and the concern is very urgent, then better opt for a foam bed. It is also easier to find.

3. Durability

A problem with shabby spring bed which is copious in the market is that it does not stand up to claims especially if more than one person will sleep on it, and not to mention you have kids around the house. Spring is so soft that not using your bed correctly may mean disaster. It can break and poke out of the foam sheets.

Foams in this case may be a better option since most foams are thicker, ranging from three inches to more than 10. If you are to buy a memory foam, then you can even get the most out of your money since it is sure to last for years. Just make sure that you will buy quality foams and not the ones used in beds but meant for simple cushioning.
