Dogs really do not need clothes but dog clothing can signify that they are really special to their owners

. In fact, there are many dedicated clothing lines out there that specifically cater to dog clothes. Female dogs have their own designed dresses while the males also have their own version of tuxedos. Other costumes are also available and they can be specifically tailored upon request. But before you buy these clothes, you should first consider some factors that may affect the fit of these clothes on them. Although these clothes will look good on them, some dogs may feel uncomfortable with them especially when they are not fitted properly.

Determining the size of dogs

Loose or tight dog clothing usually result from the wrong measurements. However, not everyone knows how to measure their dogs properly. When determining the measurements of your dogs, you will of course need a measuring tool. The measuring tapes used by tailors are best for this job. You will also need to know what parts of the dog you should measure and here are some basic parts to consider.

Topline - Measuring the topline is basically the same as measuring the length of your dogs back. Start measuring from the dogs upper most spine vertebrae. This area is found in between the shoulders and just before reaching the neck. The measurement stops at the point where the tail starts to protrude out of the body or at its base.

Girth Knowing the measurement of your dogs girth is important to prevent improper fit of dresses, shirts and other costumes around the body. To measure this area, you should first determine the biggest ribcage of your dog. This area is usually found below the top of the spine or below the base of the neck. Once you find this area, start measuring it by placing the tape above the corresponding spine the rib is attached to. Then you will have to measure around the rib and end it on the point where you started measuring.

Neck This area easy to locate since this is where you usually place the collar. If you are not sure where this area is, you can use the chest as a guide since the neck is located above this area.

Head - Headgears are also popularly used by many dogs to complete their outfit. The proper head measurements should be properly made so as to stop some headgears from covering the eyes of the dog. The measurement starts at the front of the ears attachment and it continues around the jaw until you return back to your starting point.

Knowing where to measure can make your dogs more comfortable when wearing dog clothing. It can also prevent injuries since tight fitting clothes can suffocate your dogs. The same is true for loose clothes since your dogs can easily trip or stumble down while wearing them. You should always prioritize your dogs safety over these clothes. If you see that your dog is having troubles with their clothes, then you should do something about it by either buying a new set of proper clothes or by personally altering the size of the clothes.
