Doctor Reviews - Where To Find Them
When you hear about a movie coming out, you don't have any problem finding critics that can tell you whether its worth going to see or not
. If there's a new product burning up the shelves at your local Target, you know you can find some opinions that will tell you whether or not you should shell out your hard-earned money to buy it. But when it comes to your healthcare, things aren't so easy. Or are they? You may have to look a little harder, but it is very possible to find doctor reviews that can tell you which physician to choose and which ones to stay far away from.
Of course, nothing beats talking to your friends, family, and co-workers when it comes to getting first hand doctor reviews. You can ask questions, discuss your particular problems, as well as finding out whether your needs would be met by a certain physician. The thing is, you can always count on your close friends to give it to you straight. At the same time, their opinion will only be one of many, so you may not want to base your entire decision off of one such opinion.
The same thing holds true, however, of another great resource. The internet provides many websites that have lots of doctor reviews placed there by patients. If you look up your local area, you're sure to find some physicians that have opinions posted about their practice. If there are a lot of comments and ratings, most of them pointing out the same problems (or praising them for the same reasons), you can feel fairly confident in making your decision based on this new information. If there are only one or two comments posted, you have to take the small sample into consideration.
Finally, certain forms of health insurance will provide their clients with doctor reviews. This is a growing trend in the U.S., and one which has been met with a certain amount of skepticism by physician groups. Still, the ratings provided by your insurance company can not only give you a decent idea of who is favored, sometimes there will be breaks monetarily for going to the highest rated physicians.
No matter how you go about finding a physician, make sure and do your own research before setting up an appointment. Check him out with the state medical board and see what, if any, disciplinary action has been taken against him. A good bedside manner and efficient service may get them good ratings on the web, but you need to know more before you trust your health in their care.
