The Dhaka-Kolkata Maitree Express commenced its services from the West Bengal capital Kolkatta on 14 April and got held for few minutes in Nadia region. This incident took place because some citizens who sat on its railway path challenging rehabilitation of Bangladeshs people in exile. The train was held near Aranghata in the Ranaghat. The people who were protecting the train came down but did not use any harsh means or force as the unlawful resident themselves removed the barrier and the train recommenced its journey. While Eastern Railways sources previously said that the unlawful resident belonged to the 'Amra Bangalee' crowd, the police force say they were campaigners of the Nikhil Banga Nagarik Sangha. A large group of people have been supposedly detained for jamming the course of the train.
