Your Holiday In Rhodes

Share: The island of Rhodes offers a real diversity of experiences to curious and adventurous visitors
. This is no desert island, it is so fertile that is has been known in the past as the 'Island of Roses' for the rock-roses that seem to pop up and sprout out of every nook and cranny in the ground. For the student of ancient history, there are many sites to be explored and facts to be learned about the island's fascinating and long history. Since it has been inhabited since Neolithic times, there have been settlements here since the Bronze Age.
If the word 'bronze' makes you think more of tanning as opposed to history, the island has plenty of beaches on which you can practice responsible sun exposure or party it up at one of the beachside taverna's that are prolific here. Lindos Beach is the trendiest of the beach choices. People come here to be seen and brush up on the latest beach fashion trends. Faliraki beach is another good option if you are seeking a variety of bar and restaurant choices without having to stray far from the beach. If you would prefer a quieter more scenic option, Ladiko Beach is worth a visit. There is a small area of sand and a swimming platform for sunbathing and further access to the water. Water-sports are a popular Rhodes activity as well including snorkelling, diving and surfing. The best surf spots can mostly be found on the west coast and southern end of the island.
If you prefer to keep your feet solidly on the ground, there is always the option to Climb Mt. Attavyros. The island is blessed with exceptionally mild weather so the 2-3 hour climb though challenging, can be an extremely enjoyable escape into nature and some of the more fertile agricultural areas of the island. On the climb, you will pass through vineyards and follow a path marked by rocks painted red that will guide you to the summit. For those you would prefer to pass on the physical exertion, it is possible to drive up the mountain instead from the south.
In addition to all these ways to pass your time on the island of Rhodes, there are two great castles to explore. Most islands don't even have one! The Castle of Kastellos and Castle of Monolithos are both well-worth a visit. Before you leave, make sure to take a run over to the ancient ruins of Kamiros. In Rhodes, all roads lead to something amazing whether it be really old or very new.
