The only disadvantages of the Wii games is that they require you to purchase many add on items such as Wii boards, extra controllers and more. However, the Playstation 3 is substantially more in price so this is also something to consider.

Unfortunately the Wii cannot play DVD's or CD's and is purely a gaming console. If you are looking for something that has gaming and also other features, you might want to consider the Playstation 3.
Recommendation
This console is great for younger children and families and would not really be suitable for serious gamers. It has a wonderful list of family friendly games and great for when your kids have friends over. It's also the perfect draw card to keep your children inside when you don't want your kids clothes to get dirty before an important event. It's fast to load games and has many games with two or more player options.

The Playstation 3 has a wide variety of games with high resolution graphics, especially in comparison to the Wii. These games are generally targeted at more of a serious gaming audience so probably best for older age groups.
Generally the games available for the Playstation 3 are less social and often require just one player. If you want your child to be able to play with you and their siblings and friends, a Wii is more likely to encourage this.
Other capabilities
The Playstation 3 is also able to play CD's and DVD's which is perfect for consolidating your entertainment unit. Unlike the Wii, it has added functionality and even provides access to the Playstation Store.
Built-in Blu-ray player
One of the biggest advantages of the Playstation 3 is that it comes with a Blu-ray player. This is great if you want to watch blu-ray discs.
Recommendation
The Playstation 3 is great for a child who is already into gaming and enjoys the more involved strategic games on the market. It is also great if you and your family want to purchase one unit that can play DVD's, CD's and blu-ray discs.
