Visiting the White House Christmas tree
For many visitors to Washington a visit to the White House will be high on the list of priorities. The home of the President and the nerve centre of all things American, it's an extremely popular tourist destination. During December visitors are welcomed to see the White House Christmas tree. The tree is lit from dusk til 11pm and is truly a great sight. The tree can be viewed from December 10 through to New Years day at The Ellipse, south of the White House, with musical groups performing nightly from 6pm to 8:30pm.
Elvis! His Groundbreaking, Hip-Shaking, Newsmaking Story at Newseum
Taking a break from the traditional Christmas fare, why not take a trip to the Newseum, Washington's most interactive museum. Experience the power of Elvis Presley and the explosive impact he had on music and popular culture in the Newseum's newest exhibit, "Elvis! His Groundbreaking, Hip-Shaking, Newsmaking Story." The exhibit opens in what would have been Presley's 75th birthday year. It tells the story of Presley as he was portrayed in the news media and explores how his music and physicality pushed the boundaries of mainstream taste and free expression.
On display December through February 14.
