What You Need To Know About The Super Visa Medical Exam And Insurance
Share: The Super Visa is a fairly new visa document in Canada
. It was only introduced in December 2011 as a substitute for permanent residence (PR) applications for parents and grandparents. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has temporarily suspended accepting applications for PR status in an effort to catch up with the backlog of applications that are awaiting evaluation. The application process and requirements for Super Visas are similar to the process and requirements for PR status, but has several additional requirements.
Buying Super Visa Insurance
As most applicants know, one of the major requirements for the Super Visa is the need to attach proof of Canadian medical insurance to the application. This insurance should cover all of the expenses for basic medical care, hospitalization, and repatriation (i.e., transportation to a traveler"s home country) in the event that you contract an illness or need to be admitted to a hospital in Canada. Coverage must be for at least $100,000, and last for one year.
Since CIC also requires that the medical insurance be provided by a Canadian insurance company, here's a tip: have your child or grandchild look after this requirement for you. It is easier and more secure for your relative in Canada to purchase this insurance in your name. However, if you would like to look after the insurance requirement yourself, you can always investigate insurance policy details and prices by using a comparable quote website online.
Share: Regardless of where or how you purchase an insurance policy, make sure that your terms include a full refund in the event that your application is rejected. Choose an insurance company that will also agree to a partial refund of your premium if you don"t make a claim on your policy during your stay in Canada and return home before the year is over.
Going Through a Medical Exam
It is typical for visa applications for any foreign country to require applicants to go through a medical exam. In this case though, parents and grandparents may or may not be required to go through a Super Visa medical exam. It is recommended that applicants wait for an initial approval from the visa office where they have submitted their application before going to a specific clinic or hospital where they can get a Super Visa medical exam. Needless to say, if initial approval from the visa office is not forthcoming, there is no need for the medical exam.
Some applicants who have already received approval for their visas were not asked to go through a Super Visa medical exam. However, this doesn"t necessarily mean that the CIC is lax about the health condition of visa applicants. As indicated above, one of the main requirements that parents and grandparents need to meet in their applications is proof that they"ve purchased Super Visa insurance. The process of buying medical insurance policies should include a review of a client"s health. If an applicant has pre-existing illnesses, they would need to purchase a policy that would cover complications arising from those illnesses. This means that by reviewing the insurance policy, the visa officer will know if an applicant will be adequately covered. Therefore, be careful not to purchase a policy that does not cover pre-existing conditions unless you are in excellent health.
