Social security is a term that we easily relate with those individuals that are retired, but we don't ever consider that children are in the same category. The Social Security Administration simply needs proof that the condition does exist, and they are unable to assess the needs of each individual child without the evidence they require. Teachers are a very helpful resource when the child is able to attend school, and are able to contribute to the documentation necessary when applying for benefits. One other determining factor is the income of the family. The amount of money granted is calculated according to the income of the family as a whole. When a child receives social security income they will also automatically be eligible for Medicaid, but only if the family income is limited enough that they qualify. There are health benefits available to families when their income is higher than what the guidelines allow, but the health benefits are not available through Medicaid.
