Boone County court documents have shown that Washington was served with a protection of order against the woman he assaulted, a former tutor of his
. He was served the order in June and was accused of sexual assault by the tutor, who remains unidentified to protect her privacy. The incident took place inside of her apartment over the summer.
She claims that Washington entered her closed bedroom while he was over there visiting her roommate. She claims that he sexually assaulted her while she was asleep. The original hearing was scheduled for July, but was delayed at the woman's request. The case appeared to be dormant after Washington and the woman both did not show up for the rescheduled hearing.
Washington may have thought he was in the clear after that, but that was not the case. Prosecutors continued to investigate, and Washington had to then hire an attorney. Washington was named one of four team captains before the season, and his coach calls the incident embarrassing.
Washington's incident has been far from the first one involving the team this offseason. Tight end Beau Brinkley was arrested for a DWI. That came just one week after linebacker Will Asner and assistant coach Bruce Walker's own arrests for alcohol related driving incidents. Washington's mistake is just the icing on the cake of what has been a sordid offseason for the Tigers. It will be very interesting to see how they are able to cope with this adversary in the upcoming season.
