Values In Life And Why They Are Important
All though out life, we are being educated on the importance of having good values
, and how to apply them in everyday living. From birth until our dying days, we learn and acquire values that have positive impacts on our life.
A value is a positive mindset - like an unwritten list of things we much keep in our hearts and minds, which will affect everything we do. Our reaction to things all depends on how much of these positive values we will apply. This means, the less we apply them, the higher the chances of positive results.
There are some value which are so basic - often taken for granted, and not being given much thought. Little do we know that these are the values which push us towards success, and helps us get through the rough patches in life.
Here is a list of the 5 most basic values.
Love. A life without any form of love is implausible. Surely we have it in our lives. No, it is not the mushy kind of love for a sweetheart or for a pet. It is the type of love that drives a person to value the things that are important to him. When you love something/someone, you learn compassion.
When you have compassion, you see the goodness behind every action. You become less suspicious of others' motives, and think about how your actions will affect others, too. You may love your boss, or your co-employee in a way that encourages you to appreciate their presence in your life.
Understanding. When you have understanding, you recognize why some people act and think the way they do. This enables one to let go of anger, grudges and negativity. When you understand people, you see them always in their best form - not as nuisances who are out to get you at the slightest opportunity. This way, you make the world a better place for yourself. Accept people - good and bad alike, rather than change them to fit into the imaginary mould you want them to adhere to.
Respect. Probably the most important among all the values, respect is important in every aspect of life. Respect is recognizing the individuality of every person, and learning to accept it. No one is perfect. If you want peace to reign in the world, you will need to respect one another. Learn to respect people's opinions and ideas, no matter how different these are from yours. And keep this in mind: the more respect you give others, the more respect they will give back to you. Tit for tat.
Discipline. This is respect for a system or routine which is considered acceptable by the majority. Discipline is having integrity, even when no one is watching. Discipline is honesty even when confronted by temptation. Discipline is trusting yourself to act fairly and justly, even when others are obviously challenging authority or pre-set systems. Without discipline, there will be chaos, misunderstanding, non-performance and confusion.
Honesty. If everyone were honest, there wouldn't be so much misunderstanding. Honesty is the base among all the values in life. Everything is founded on honesty and trust. If you naturally are honest, you will know when you have made a mistake, and how to amend it. You will know how to act fairly and justly when no one is looking. Honesty is needed to avoid mistakes, but is also needed to confront the consequences of one's wrong doing. Honesty is not pointing fingers - when you know that those fingers must be pointing towards you.
