Uganda Travel - Go On A Gorilla Trekking Tour
Share: The Pearl of Africa, as Uganda is often christened is a stunning country offering many tourist attractions
. These range from mountains and valleys to falls and rivers - including River Nile ( the world's longest river) as well as a wide range of flora and fauna. Gorilla tacking is one of the most popular activity among those touring Uganda. The country has more than 20 species of primates, among them about half of the world's population of the endangered mountain gorilla - mainly found in the impenetrable Bwindi Forest. The primates of Uganda come in two types, the nocturnal and diurnal. There are 6 different types of nocturnal primates and 13 types of diurnal evenly distributed among Uganda's national park and reserves.
Bwindi impenetrable forest hosts over five different groups of totally habituated primates. The forest is also a home to the highly endangered mountain gorilla species, only found in Congo and Rwanda. The giant primates can grow up to 1.8 meters and weigh up to 350 kilos. The primates are used to tourists and they do not charge at them.

Chimpanzee is also common in Uganda. In fact the country has more chimpanzees than Kenya, Rwanda, and Tanzania put together. The chimpanzees are also totally habituated though, they occasionally snatch tourist's bags. The chimps are found mainly in the Kyambura gorge, Kibaale forest, and the Kanyiyo Padidi forest. For visitors who do not want to go into the wild, Ngamba Island is a good destination. The island is home to orphaned chimps or those that have been rescued for varied reasons.
Share: Uganda has more than eight species of monkeys, including baboons such as the olive baboon found in all the national park except around the Ruwenzori Mountains and the Montane regions. The baboons are huge and look very menacing. Their heads resemble those of dogs and they love to bare out their teeth to intimidate others and are usually sported along most safari trails. The blue monkeys are commonest in all the East African countries. They are dark blue and grey in colour and have white throat and a white chest patch. A species unique to Uganda is the golden monkey (a cousin to the blue monkey) that can only be found in the Mgahinga gorilla park. They are quite rare but can be spotted with keen observance.
January and February, and June to September are periods acknowledged as the best time to go to Uganda in general - when it is predominantly dry. Although rain is likely all year round, the rainy seasons make the trek up to the gorillas particularly difficult, so avoid the months of March-April and October-November.
