Nainital is one of the beautiful hill stations in India. It is located in the lap of Himalayas in Uttarakhand, one of the Northern states in India. Nainital is famous for its pear shaped lake which looks like an eye. It is situated at an altitude of 6,358 feet above sea level and surrounded by mesmerising mountains with evergreen trees. The town was well established during the British era in India and there are several evidences live today to see the history of Nainital.
History of Nainital
Share: According to a famous legend, Nainital got its name from Naini Lake, which is one of the famous 64 Shakti Peeths (religious sites) in India. It is believed that the eyes of Sati or Parvati, Lord Shiva's wife, fell here. There is Naini Devi temple at one side of the Naini Lake which is witnessed by a large number of devotees throughout the year from various far away places.
Nainital is also famous for various schools and colleges established during British era in India in 19th century. One of such famous colleges is Sherwood College which has students from all over India on its strength.
Climate of Nainital
Nainital has a very cool climate throughout the year. During summers maximum temperature reaches 27 degree celsius and in winters it sometimes touches 3 degree celsius. Nainital witnesses rain during the months of July and August. Winters can be enjoyed here from December to March.
Best season to visit Nainital is from April to November.

Naini Lake
Naini Lake is located in the heart of town and is the exquisite beauty for visitors. One can also enjoy the boat ride in this lake.
Naini Devi Temple
Naini Devi temple is one of the most famous temples of India and is situated at one side of the Naini Lake. Every year a large number of devotees visit this holy place.
Zoo
Nainital Zoo is located at a distance of 1 km from the main bus stand of the town and it is a habitat of Himalayan Black Bear, Leopards, Siberian Tigers, Barking Deer, Pheasants etc.
Naina Peak
It is the highest peak of Nainital with a height of 2,611 meters and one can have a beautiful view of the snow laden Himalayan mountains and the birds eye view of the entire Nainital town from this peak.
Nainital Ropeway
It is one of the main attractions of Nainital which starts from Mallital to Snow View Point (2,270 m) and its ride gives a beautiful view of the surrounding areas.
Saint John Church
It is one of the oldest building in Nainital, which was constructed in 1847 AD during British era in India.
