Top 3 Ways To Reduce The Risk Of Mma Injuries

If you are a martial artist then you will know that you can suffer injuries as easily as any other sport

. Common injuries include hyper-extension injuries, dislocation injuries, broken bones, strains, sprains, cuts and bruises. But in many cases these injuries can be prevented by taking certain steps each time you are going to train.

There is nothing more annoying than when you injure yourself, there is nothing to be proud of, it just means you have been stupid. You can enjoy a pain free martial arts career, believe me. So how can you avoid these injuries in the first place?

1. Warming and stretching. If you run straight into your martial arts lesson without any warm-up then you are not only going to struggle with any techniques and routines but you could also risk your health to getting an injury as well. Cold muscles are a lot more prone to injury than warm muscles. Warm up and stretch before each training session and a cool down after. This will prevent any strains and sprains that could occur when you try to aim for those high-flying kicks. Stretching will also increase your flexibility and will allow you to use the correct form without any strain.

2. Strength building. Your joints can become unstable which can result in injury. By concentrating on building muscle around your surrounding joints you are building your body up to prevent injury in the joints. For instance by strengthening the hamstring and quadriceps muscles, you are building your body in such a way to minimize any risk for a knee injury significantly.

3. Using the correct form. If you don't perform the techniques to the correct form then you will be putting lots of stress on certain areas of your body. If you do a side kick for example you have to pivot on the ball of your foot to get your body in position for the kick. If you do not pivot you will strain your knee and hip and put these joints into a much compromised position. It is only a matter of time if you keep these bad habits up you will eventually no matter how buff and strong you are get a sprain or even a dislocation.

If you do the techniques exactly as your instructor teaches you, you will not only become proficient in your chose martial arts style but you will avoid injury as well.
