Three Essential Tips When Traveling From Gatwick Airport

Share: London Gatwick Airport is the second largest international airport in the UK and
although it is only the tenth busiest airport in the world it has the world's busiest single-use runway. The highest number of passengers Gatwick Airport has seen was in 2007 when 35 million people used the airport during the period of a year. The airport has two terminals the North Terminal and the South Terminal; both have shops, restaurants, baby changing facilities, play areas and videos games for children. Gatwick is used as a base for many of the charter airlines for London and the South East and is unique amongst the London airports because it represents each of the three main air transport provider business models.
After the official sale of the airport to GIP from BAA on 3rd December 2009, the airports new owners have announced their desire to proceed with the 1billion investment into Gatwick to transform the passenger experience. It is hoped that this change will establish Gatwick as the airport of choice for holidaymakers and travelers in London and the South East of England. It is possible that due to this tumultuous change Gatwick may surpass Heathrow in terms of passenger amenities and infrastructure whilst also attracting more airlines and additional flight times and paths.
Although Gatwick may not be the UK's largest or busiest airport it is certainly popular among residents of the UK, especially in London and the South East. Having traveled from Gatwick myself, several times, I know that it is not always the most enjoyable experience; queuing and waiting and parking and more waiting around, so it's best to do as much as possible to plan ahead to make the experience as smooth as it can be.
Sometimes it's a good idea to book an airport hotel, as early morning/very late night flights can be a pain and inconvenience, especially when you are traveling with smaller children. There is not as much hassle with an airport hotel because you are closer to the airport, so there is no mad rush to get ready or a sleepless night before hand. Alternatively, if spending the extra money on an airport hotel seems just that little bit much, an airport lounge is another alternative to save from the hustle bustle and stress of the airport and uncomfortable seating.

There is always the option of either getting a taxi to the airport or asking a friend for a lift but in my experience, when you have a big family its nice to be able to rely on yourself to get to the airport rather than a taxi firm or a friend. BUT, if you do decide to choose airport parking, make sure you book in advance! The prices that you pay at the airport are much more expensive than those online and it's much more convenient to just pay in advance so that everything is sorted when you get there.
There are three different types of parking that are available at Gatwick Airport; on-airport parking, off-airport parking and meet and greet. Meet and Greet is by far the most convenient parking that Gatwick offer, especially if you are with a large party or have a lot of luggage because you can just be met at the terminal by a driver who will take your car for you and bring it back to you when you come back from holiday, however this is the most expensive option. The least expensive option and best value for money is the off-airport parking. Although the car parks may not be on the airport site they are still fully secured and the transport is often only 5 minutes and not much longer than the on-airport car park transfer times! Book carefully and choose the right option for you! Make sure that you book in advance to get the best prices; there are loads of different airport parking companies around now so make sure you shop around!
