The internet is not a complicated place if you know what you are doing
. When companies analyse their current business practises they may decide that a change is needed and that all processes need to be improved in terms of efficiency and deliverables. For this reason, many companies are turning to business broadband to help them save money, improve efficiency and have access to wide range of information.
When you start looking for business broadband deals there may be a considerable amount of jargon thrown your way. For those not in the computer industry this will probably make no sense but simply understanding these terms will give you a better picture of how business broadband will improve your company and help your employees.
Contention Ratios
These are quite important when selecting the right package for your company. Contention ratios are simply the number of people who share the same server. As you can imagine the lower the contention ratio the better, a contention ration of 20:1 means you will not be using the same server with any more than 19 other users. This allows you to make the most of the speeds you are offered as the more people that use the server, the slower it will be.
Firewall
Again, another important service that should be part of the service offered. A firewall is a piece of software and hardware that prevents unauthorised users accessing the server, there is going to be a considerable amount of private information on the servers including business documents and employee details so you can see why a firewall is important. This is something that all deals should have as not protecting employee and client information is illegal and you could face prosecution and if that information gets out, it could be problematic for everyone.
Fully redundant self healing network
This is something that is not offered by many companies and providers but there are a select few who do. This is a great extra to have and should be part of any business broadband deal. A fully redundant self healing network means if there is some downtime due to a fault at a BT exchange then the company providing the broadband can re-route traffic from another exchange that results in your being able to carry on working with the internet. Downtime means money being lost and this should be something that is avoided at all costs.
