The American Dream is no More
The American Dream, this was something that our country was once proud of. It has now become a nightmare for many of us. I call it the "American Dream Nightmare" Now don't get me wrong we have many freedoms that others can only think about, however the idea of school, work, marriage, and that home with a picked fence are just dreams of the forgotten. Working your entire life and then retiring happy & wealthy is just a myth of the past.
Twenty - thirty years ago or so this way of thinking was quite possible, but over the last decade things have changed drastically. People are engulfedby debt, and most of it was created to maintain an appearance or image that is utterlyfalse. Folks care a little to much about what other people think of them and they will drown themselves in debt to appear to be something they clearly aren't. The need or desire for people to like you because of what you own isn't my cup of tea, but I understand. However this line of thinking is in part responsible for your fairytale turning into an American Dream nightmare.
Share: It's astonishing to even imagine the amount of people who owe 10, 15, even 20 thousand dollars to the credit card companies, then factor in education loans, automobile notes etc. our dream has us in a choke hold. And let's not even discuss what's going on in the housing market! Foreclosures are at an alarming all time high. Why? Mainly because people were misled and purchased homes they could not afford and/or they bought into that 30 years to pay thing. We need to be more disciplined and educated when it comes to credit and debt. Debt can easily destroy your life, if you can't afford to pay cash, then you can't afford it. Credit cards have minimum value, hotels & car rentals and that's about it.
The truth is, things don't have to be this way. You have an option to go along with the same things everyone else is doing or decide that you don't want debt, but wealth & financial freedom is better. The American Dream Nightmare could have you truthfully working into you 60's and 70's paying off debt instead of enjoying your golden years. Could you ever imagine being completely debt free and owning your home free and clear? What would that feel like? The reality is your dream doesn't have to be a nightmare, it can be whatever your heart desires. If you make a conscience decision to build wealth & eliminate debt then, what you can accomplish would simply amaze you.
Regardless of what many individuals may think, saving your pocket change is NOT how you build your fortune. We were lead to believe that if you paid yourself first, that you could build a nice little nest egg for later on in life. However, this just isn't so, if you do the math look at what you pay in interest on your debt versus what you receive in interest on your savings, you can clearly see that you are fighting a losing battle. The credit card companies and the mortgage companies want you to lingerin debt forever. Becoming debt free, financially secure & wealthy is a realty not a nightmare, and for it to happen you must believe it.
"If you continue down a destructive path, nothing can come of it except devastation" J.R.
