Spur Of The Moment Trip To A Galena Bed And Breakfast
I want to tell you about a great weekend that we had
. It was one of those spur of the moment trips that we took that ended rather nicely. We do have our share of quirky trips in the past but our trip to Galena is one that we would surely love to reminisce. Maybe it was the Galena bed and breakfast place that we stayed it that made it more memorable.Galena is a small town in Illinois where most of the buildings are listed under the National Register of Historic Places. This was the reason why we decided to go on a road trip here. We wanted to see for ourselves the old buildings of the historical district. Of course, we did research a bit about the town and the interesting things to do there.
We also went online to search of a Galena bed and breakfast place where we could stay. We found one which captured our imagination. It was a mansion that was built in the year 1876 and has been beautifully preserved down to the hand-made Czechoslovakian ruby glass windows. We reserved for a room immediately and the person we spoke to on the phone was very easy to talk to.
Since we only had the weekend to visit and see the whole city and my boyfriend wanted to play a round of golf too so our schedule was quite packed. We decided to check in at the Galena bed and breakfast first before touring the town. Upon reaching the Galena bed and breakfast place, we were awed right away. It was truly like being transported back in time. Even the furniture and decors were period pieces so it was like staying in a museum. Although it did give you feel of a museum, the place still had its charm and a homey feel to it. The beds are comfortable with lots of fluffy pillows and soft cotton sheets. There's a butler to welcome you and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. There is even a garden at the back of the building which we think makes a great venue for a garden wedding.
After checking in, we immediately proceeded to the town for some sightseeing and other touristy things that people do while on vacation. The historic district of the town did not disappoint us. The buildings were beautiful and really awe-inspiring. We even visited some of the houses of the generals who settled in Galena after the war like the house of Ulysses Grant. There are also other Galena bed and breakfast places in the city but we feel that the one we are staying in now is the best. We also visited some wineries and purchased a few bottles to bring home to our friends.
The city has several golf courses where an avid golfer will surely delight in. My boyfriend did not let the opportunity pass to play in one of the best golf courses in America. Since I don't play, I just asked him to drop me off at the Galena bed and breakfast so I can rest. We opted to have dinner at a restaurant in the city which was just a short drive away from where we were staying. Breakfast was going to be served at 9:00 am sharp, information we got from reading reviews about the place.
We woke up early to be in time for it and it did not disappoint us for the food that was served was great. It was just disappointing that we had to leave that afternoon. However, the experience that we had while staying at the Galena bed and breakfast will surely be remembered. Now, we are already planning our next vacation which hopefully will be longer than the first time.
