Smart Tips You Can Learn From Someone Whos Been In The Business For More Than A Decade

Share: I have always stood by the lessons Ive learned from a business coach
. And from more than a decade of being in business, my business coach was able to cull a lot of valuable tips and advice that can help newbies and small businesses to become successful.
I was truly grateful that I had these lessons before I took the plunge. And I hope you too can learn a lot from these golden nuggets of advice so you can have success in running your own business as well.
Job costing. According to my business coach, and from my own experience, this is the very first thing that you should be aware of if you want to continue in your business. You need to have a stable accounting system that would provide you with your job costing for your business.
It doesnt need to be elaborate and complicated. There are so many accounting forms that you need to keep track of so you would know where your investments go, as well as to prepare you for your taxes. But the things you need to remember the most are these details: how to determine what items make the most cash, which jobs have the most profit margins, how to calculate referrals, and how to direct your marketing resources to get you what you want. You need to create a system that covers all these costing and have everyone in your staff understand and implement it.
By determining your job costing, you are providing yourself with benefits such as determining whether you make a profit or not for each job; evaluate the source of referrals for each job; avoid and eliminate marketing expenses that dont pay off; determine your profitable referrals so you can reward them; evaluate where you can make money the most; and know which sector of your business you need to develop or even do away with.
Establish your relationships with your vendors. You need to have a good relationship with your vendors. You know why? Because they would be able to come through for you when the time comes that you really needed their help. Your vendors would want you to be profitable because it would mean that they would also benefit potentially from your endeavors when you use their services. Hence, you need to keep some with you despite your changing a few along the way. It is paramount that you treat your vendors as part of your business family; and you can experience the returns from the relationship that can equal to a profitable bottom line.
Its all about them! Its not about you. Your business is all about your customers and your potential clients. So no matter how small, or too difficult, or that your customers are not exciting enough you need to treat them well because they are the ones sending the profits your way. Dont let your competition rejoice because they gained another client from those youve blown off. Customers are too precious to be treated shabbily by you.
The key is to work hard for your clients; keep up a positive attitude when youre with them; reward them with tokens of appreciation such as special discounts and promotional giveaways like memo pads and notepads; and give them the kind of service that they would be awestruck with. They would in turn become your loyal customers many times over.
Listen to complaints and feedback. This is where surveys and questionnaires can really help you learn what your customers want from your business. Feedback from your clients can go a long long way in helping you further improve on your offers and customer service. Their honest response to your questions can help you improve on your pitches as well as your customer service so you can get them to take you up on your offer every time.
Continue marketing. No matter that the economy is down, you need to continue to market so your customers and prospects would know that youre still alive and kicking. With creative and persistent marketing, you can make a big bang in a very busy marketplace.
If you can implement these tips to your daily operating routine, youll truly end up being able to grow your business to a highly profitable one.
