We all know that driving a vehicle can be a stressful experience

, and nearly all drivers have gotten frustrated behind the wheel at some point. But, it is very important to avoid engaging in aggressive driving behaviors, such as speeding, running red lights, quick lane changing and failure to yield. Often, drivers are in a hurry, and it is at these times that people tend to violate standard traffic laws that could result in an accident and possible injuries and of course, an increase in car insurance rates.

But also, anaggressive driving act can trigger a disproportionate response, which sometimes evenescalates into road rage, a criminal act of assault, which may stem from a confrontation that occurred on the road. It could also result in a loss of car insurance due to negligent behavior.

The Automobile Association of America (AAA) Foundation'sAggressive Driving updatefound that aggressive driving behaviors are a factor in up to 56% of fatal crashes. Additionally, nearly90% of driversview aggressive driving as a very serious or somewhat serious threat to their own safety.

Most people believe they drive aggression-free. Quite often they dont realize that when another car carelessly cuts them off, or nearly causes an accident, that their response is often obscenity-laced, or results in rude gestures or long, angry stares, or they may simply mutter their disapproval under their breath. A few tips on how to avoid aggressive driving

Don't offendothers who may merely have made an unintended mistake

Avoid cutting other drivers off and apologize if this is the case

Avoid tailgating and honking the horn

Avoid making inappropriate or offensive gestures

Don't engage in driving behaviors that may impair judgment and lead to an accident or hostile engagement with another motorist

Steer clear of aggressive drivers by slowing down or turning onto another street

Avoid eye contact with a driver engaging in hostile acts

Seek help if another car begins a chase by driving to a safe/crowded location or by dialing 911

Behavior modification can result in all parties becoming calmer and more relaxed

Leaveenough time to arrive at a destination instead of being hurried, which can lead to accidents

Take a deep breath and remember escalating a situation will only make things worse

By acknowledging that others can make mistakes, often unintentionally, we can all reduce the amount of situations that can lead to aggressive driving, or possibly escalate into road rage with dire consequences.
