Srinagar, 12 March: Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani today said that they have no prolonged idea of observing constant protest and complete shutdowns in coming summer in the valley of Kashmir.
"We have not framed any programme for the purpose of shutdowns and severe protests this summer. We understand and are not in favor of destroying the charm of tourism season in the valley and the educational field will also function smoothly without any commotion," he said in a statement here on Saturday. "As for as the peaceful agitation is concerned, the shutdowns and peaceful protests are very important for us for the furtherance of cause of the people of valley," he further added.
While talking about the cause of the last year agitation, he said that the killing of the youth of Machil sector, Kupwara and in other parts of the valley compelled youth to come out on roads and stage severe protests.
According to the police sources, security has been put in full strength in the valley to ensure the peaceful situation this year and no such untoward incidents will happen as last year in which every sector of the valley faced huge losses in many shapes.
Valley witnessed a shutdown today in response to the strike call given by the Hurriyat Hardliner, S.A.S. Geelani over the constant arrests of Separatist Leaders and the youth.
(Last year unrest in the valley of kashmir remained for more than four months in which dozens of youth were killed in various districts of kashmir. The unrest was very severe of its kind. Education, tourism, business and other filelds met with huge losses and destruction.This year, it was assumed that the valley will also show the same flames of anger and agitaion as was seen in the last year but when it was clarified by the Hurriyat(G) chairmain now that there is no such program of regular strikes, shutdowns and severe protest this summer so tourism industry of the valley with which thousands of the unemployed youth are attached, praised the decision of the saparatists. As in last year due to the halt in the development of the valley, every person and part of the valley was affected.)
