New Suzuki Swift Out In The Autumn

Share: Suzuki has announced that the new Swift will be available in the UK from the autumn of this year
. It is a little bigger than the old swift; an extra 90mm long, with a slightly larger wheelbase and is 10mm taller. However, it is still designed to appeal to drivers who are looking for a small, nippy, agile, environmentally friendly and economical car.
The new Swift looks almost identical to the old Swift, which is not a bad thing when you consider that how good the old car looks considering it is such a small car. The changes to the engines give the car a lot more power and make them even nippier. They will still be great fun to drive.
The new Swift has a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which incorporates Dual VVT or variable intake and exhaust valve timing. The engine produces 94PS at 6,000 rpm, a little more than the old 1.3 litre engine. Torque is now 118Nm at 4,800 rpm. Its green credentials are excellent too, with CO2 emissions of only 116g/km for the manual version.
The new Swift will be very easy to maintain and economical to run. When driven on an urban cycle the manual version does 56.5mpg, 8mpg more than the current 1.3 Swift does.
Suzuki have not finished with the 1.3 diesel engine configuration, they plan to release a 1.3 version of the new Swift into the UK early in 2011. That engine will be even greener than the old 1.3 engine; the new one only emits 109g/km the older engines emitted 119g/km. Fuel consumption for this engine is 67.3mpg. The outgoing Swift DDiS only managed to achieve 62.8mpg.
Once again it will be the Hungary plant that will build the new Swifts, so build standards are expected to remain high. This new generation of Swifts may not be radically different, but they are improving all the time. This trend is set to accelerate when Suzuki and VW collaborate of further versions of the Swift. Both companies have a great deal of experience in designing and building very popular super minis.
