New Cyber Security Law To Protect Your Online Privacy
Share: The Federal Trade Commission of U.S has submitted a report pressuring the internet
companies to adopt Do no track privacy policy so as to enhance the web experience for its users by offering them full online privacy. The report has asked all the third parties, websites and applications to withdraw their interference on web browsing, so that the consumers can have more control over their personal data online.
The report has been released in response to the increasing concern of the people as how their personal identities, online daily data activity and other information gets accumulated in social networking sites like twitter, Face book and Google, and how these companies exploit them. This has urged the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) to pass broad privacy legislation that would allow consumers to see how their online data is collected, used and sold, and enable them the ability to stop such practices with this new privacy policy.
All prime web browsers including, Mozilla Firefox browser, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Apple Mountain Lion operating system should adopt this policy and add a Do no track button on its browsers, so that the consumer can have a single, simple and persistent preference with a HTTP header to opt out of third-party web tracking.
The new cyber security bill will facilitate some preferences to the customers so that he/ she could keep himself/ herself out of the jurisdiction of website tracking. No doubt, there are a number of third party websites that provide tracking opt out options, but all of them are neither reliable nor easy to-use, nor comprehensive. While, the newly proposed Do Not Track policy promises to offer simple and authentic features safeguarding consumers online privacy. When embedded in Mozilla Firefox, the browser informs the advertising networks and other third party websites that the consumer would like to opt-out of tracking for reasons like behavioral advertising.
No doubt, the Do Not Track policy, if implemented appropriately can curb the third party activity of online tracking, but it is not free from drawbacks. It lack technical standardization and the user might come across certain hassles in enjoying certain personalized services.
