Matching Tuscany Beaches And Beach Cities
Several travelers would have heard about the Tuscany region and they would immediately
recollect only the famous historic sites and cities like Florence, Pisa, Lucca, and Siena... However, they might not know anything about the extremely fine beaches that Tuscany possesses. The main beach area in Tuscany is the northern region of Riviera Versilia. In this area, the beaches extend from Bocca di Magra to the Arno. After spending time in these beaches, you could proceed to the Lerici beach and then to Portovenere beach. In the summer months, particularly in July, Viareggio and Forte die Marmi are quite congested, but not as packed like the travel places such as Florence, Siena, and other tourist spots in Italy.
Genoa is the principal seaport of Italy. The main rail hub runs from Genoa to Rome and Genoa is also connected by train to Milan, Pisa, Turin, and France. Genoa is also a good starting point if you wish to explore the villages that dot the route on the Italian Riviera while continuing the beach travel program from Genoa to Tuscany.
Another tourist attraction that many travelers miss is the Tuscan Archipelago, with its own small groups of islands. Isola del Giglio is a mountainous island and is famous for scuba diving and windsurfing. Isola di Ginannutri is also another rocky island but is more suitable for trekking and snorkeling. There are seven other island in the archipelago is Montecristo but it could be visited by tourists with a special permission from the government of Italy.
Another Riviera in the Tuscany region is the Etruscan Riviera, if you prefer a natural getaway beach spot that stretches from Livorno to Piombino. This stretch is mostly quite rocky but Castiglioncello and Marina di Cecina have sandy shores that offer quiet relaxation. Of course, Isola dElba need not be mentioned separately here, since it is already quite famous as a beach tour spot, attracting visitors from every corner of the world. The exile of Napoleon to this island is folklore and is one of the chief reasons for people visiting this lovely island regularly. The accommodation arrangements, restaurants, and nightlife in Isola dElba are as good as any other tourist spot in the world.
