This park is said to have been created by King Rama VI in the early 1920s, when it was property of the king, as opposed to being open for public use as it is today. The imposing statue which stands at the South-western entrance of the park is of King Rama VI and is said to have been originally named Lumbini, as it is thought to be the birthplace of Buddha in Nepal. Visitors to the park should not forget to pay a visit to the Lumphini Public Library and enjoy a pedal boat ride while at the park.
