For anyone visiting a foreign country on holiday for the first time it can prove a somewhat intimidating experience. Therefore it is always a good idea to learn as much as you can about it before you do travel there. Along with reading the usual tourist blurb providing don't be afraid to find sites where comments from previous visitors to the area are provided also.

When it comes to visiting countries such as Turkey then of course you will need to make sure that you have some funds with you. However, it is advisable that you don't take a whole wad of cash with you. Below we take a look at what to do when it comes to taking money with you to Turkey.

Tip 1 Although the main currency used in this country is the Turkish Lira there are plenty of shops and restaurants in the tourist resorts that are happy to accept UK currency as well. In fact as you wander past these places not only will they have their costs in Lira's but also in pounds and dollars. So you don't need to ensure that you have all your holiday money exchanged in to the local currency if you don't wish.

Tip 2 It is better if you take travellers cheques with you in order to arrange to get more of the local currency when on holiday. Not only does this mean that you aren't carrying large amounts of cash with you at all times but they are insured. So should you lose them or they are stolen you can contact your bank to arrange for further ones to be made available.

Tip 3 - When it comes to changing your cheques use a bank or post office rather than an exchange bureau. This is because you will find that they charge a lot less money for changing the cheques so of course you don't lose so much money.
