Just like most on the big cities, Paris is made up of unique districts or departments. Each of these arrondissements has its own story to tell, backed up through the charm of the town of lights. This simple fact only makes the history of Paris much more interesting, and complicated.
It was towards the end with the 3rd century BC when the Celtic Gaul tribes founded Paris. The metropolis got its name from the settlers who were identified since the Parisii.
This romantic metropolis was taken over through the famous Roman emperor Julius Caesar during the 52 BC. The place that's now known because the Latin Quarter was once the spot where the Romans built the city Lutetia. Paris continued to be under the Roman influence right up until the 5th century AD. It wasn't until 508 AD that the Romans completely left the town.
After the Roman invasion, Clovis with the Franks established his own kingdom with Paris as its capital. This made Clovis the very first king of Paris. He continued to reign for nearly 500 years, along with his descendants - the Carolingians. By 987 AD, when Paris became the hub from the French government, the construction with the Notre Dame Cathedral was started. And through the 13th century, the Louvre Museum and Sorbonne Learning University, also identified since the "University of Paris", were opened.
By 1643, King Louis XIV reigned since the king of France but then overthrown by Napoleon Bonaparte inside the 1700s. At the time of Napoleon II's reign, Paris started to prosper and become a location that may be rich in history, culture and art. It also enjoyed favorable growth as a multi-cultural city as it accommodates new immigrants and visitors from all corners on the world.
That fact is evident up till these days as Paris still remains to be the most visited metropolis from the world.
