Children are very comfortable lying to almost everything just to get them out of trouble
. They are afraid that if they tell the truth about the thing they have done wrong, they would be punished. Parents should know that teaching your child that lying is bad and should not be done will have positive effects on the child. Of course, occasional lying is part of his development but it is another story if the child lies his way through everything.Do not worry if your child starts to lie. Every parent in the world will experience this. For you to be able to get rid of his habit of lying you should first discover the reason behind it. Keep in mind that it is obvious when children lie. It is also a lot different than the lies of adults.
Most of the time children like to copy adults. They like to mimic people especially their parents but there could be other reasons why a child lies.
A child is seeking constant attention and that could be the cause why he is lying, however, he could also be hiding something he has done wrong. Properly watching your child ensures that you will be able to handle him and his new found habit.
When your child did something wrong you should avoid inquiring what you already know. For example, he broke a plate; asking him if he broke it just gives the chance to lie. What you have to do is tell him that you know he did it and lying will not help him get away with it.
Keep in mind that all children will lie, when you were a child I'm sure you did it a lot so don't get angry when your child does it too. It's normal. To avoid getting shouted at or being punished he may result to lying so it is still you who is the root cause. Keep it cool and discourage the lying.
It may be difficult to control a lying child. But once you think about the results, having an honest and truthful child is worth the trouble.
