You know, deep down inside that happy holidays are simply out of the question once you've discovered that your husband is cheating. However, if you really want to make the most of your holidays there are things you can do that will make them happier and help you enjoy a few of your favourite things about them even though your marriage may feel as though it's completely falling apart.
There is never a good time to find out your husband has been cheating on you but the holidays can be particularly brutal. You're expected to make all kinds of appearances and be happy in the process. You don't want to tell everyone what's going on in your marriage because you really have no idea what the future holds. Unfortunately, lingering in this state of limbo gives you little to be merry and bright about either.
So, how do you just get through the holidays and all the demands on your time they represent when all you really want to do is crawl under a rock somewhere and hide out until next year?
1) Decide to do the things that bring you joy. We all have favourite things about the holidays. Whether yours is going out and finding the biggest Christmas tree in the forest, cutting it down, and bringing it home to decorate or just sitting by the fire reading Christmas stories to you children, there are things you love and that really matter to you about the holidays. Make a point of doing those things and deriving as much pleasure as possible from these acts. You just might discover that you're getting in the holiday spirit in spite of your marital situation.
2) Agree not to make your husband the bad guy in your mind or heart. More importantly, decide not to go all over town making him out to be the bad guy to anyone who will listen. This is the time of year to celebrate family and not to tear your family down. Even if you aren't sure what you're going to do next it's not a good idea to follow that particular path. The fewer people who know what's going on, the better. If you decide to work things out in the end, the people you've told about your husbands misdeeds might not be as quick to forgive as you are.
3) Surround yourself with people who love you including your cheating husband. Don't try to push your husband or anyone else for that matter, out of your celebrations. This is the time when you need to draw friends, family, and other loved ones close not push them away.
