How are Americans United?The United States of America was united from the very first beginning by the need to be free. This unity though was merely superficial as it was based on personal interests. Each individual, each family felt heavily the chains of taxes Britain was imposing on its American colony. The unity that came to confront Britain and that led to a battle that America eventually won was not based on strong bonds. It was the case of two divorced couple who now hate each other so bad but because of their children they come together and go to indulging the children in picnic.
So after the battle has been fought under the banner of refusing to pay taxes, then people in the American colony had freedom to take the land and settle it. Each individual dispersed and retired to his own farm. Even the general who lead the American colony army George Washington return back to his house after the war. Had it not because of the helping hand of France in what is has since been referred to as the American Revolution, the American states stood no chance at all of facing the British army let alone win the battle. It was because of the French factor in the war, France supporting the American states that the battle tilted in favor of the Americans.
The superficial unity was clearly visible immediately after the American Revolution. This was a period when the American states fell apart because there was no personal gain or interest as a collective unity. This was the time when each individual did not see the reason of coming together. So from then on the spirit of individualism emerged which we still have today. The People of the United States are not so much united like other traditional nations like France, South Africa, and England and so on. I suppose you have figured it now that England or France (the white nations in Europe) would never have a Black president. Similarly South Africa, a black nation in which Whites are dominating in wealth and power, will never ever have a white president. United States of America is not united to the roots, the unity is not traditional, and there are no traditional bonds.
There are no strong ethnic roots in America only personal aspirations and personal desires that go under the name of American Dream. It is personal interests, personal achievements, personal success and personal advancements that matters. Like you see during American presidential elections, it is not so much about the political party that matters like other nations, but an individual who stand up and beat his or her chest that he/she is going to solve people's problems by changing things. The current president Barack Obama won the elections in the ticket of "The Change That We Believe In". American people love change because there do not have strong traditional bonds that unite them together, and the very idea of clearly show that people don't care about traditions (otherwise they would not be a desire to change old ways people will not vote for someone who want to change things) So to answer your question United States of America is not united, the unity is only promoted by politicians to hype up the mood necessary to whip people to vote.
