How To Shop For Teen Bras

Teen bras come under lots of different names

Teen bras come under lots of different names. They're referred to as training bras, bralets, starter bras, first bras, and even sometimes preteen bras. The want (or need) to wear preteen or teen lingerie usually begins to manifest itself between the ages of eleven and thirteen. Sometimes it's not even because they have really developed physically, it's that that emotionally, young girls feel like they need to be wearing them.

When it comes to choosing a girl's first bra, what matters most is that it has to be comfortable, versatile, and well fitted. The reason for comfort is obvious: you don't want the first experience of wearing a bra to be an unpleasant one. It needs to be versatile because it should be able to be worn for different occasions, as the girl doesn't have several different types (yet) to choose from. Finally it needs to be well-fitted, because that ill-fitting bras can be responsible for problems later in life.

You can opt for attractive colors and (depending on the girl's age and maturity) a bit of lace, so she can feel more feminine and attractive. Support is likely not yet an issue, but it will be later on when her body matures. Yet it's as good a time as any to teach her how to choose the correct bra size for herself.

Several department stores have saleswomen who are trained in proper bra sizing. Some brands have even been launched around the concept that you haven't been wearing well-fitting bras yet, until you've tried theirs! But when it comes to your teen or pre-teen, you might have a bit of difficulty getting them to entrust a stranger with their developing bodies. They might even refuse to let you see them. On the other hand, they might feel like they can better relate to their friends, who are going through the same process. So just set some guidelines for them to follow (styles and prices mostly) and let them choose their own.How To Shop For Teen Bras

Here's what they need to know so they can choose correctly:

The part that wraps around the body is called the bra band size, and it's expressed in numbers: 30-32-34-36, and so on. If band is too tight, it will hurt; on the other hand if it's too lose, the back of the bra will ride up.

The bra cup is measured in letters, such as AA-A-B-C-D. If the cup size is too small, it will create an unflattering bulge either at the top or at the sides, none of which is something they would want. On the other hand, too large a cup will wrinkle because it doesn't have enough under it to fill it, and the resulting lines will show under their clothing.

Even if the cup size is correct, if the band size is off, it results in a cup size that looks right on paper, but that actually ends up too small or too big. That makes clothes fit poorly. If a teenage bra is snug, try one that's one size larger, but try hooking it on the last set of hooks. If the bra cups are now be too large, then you might have no choice but to go down one size in the cup. If ou find that it's still not a good fit, try another style or brand because their measurements do vary slightly. Women always notice that they often have to change the bra band or cup size when buying different bra styles and/or brands.

Pay attention to the bra straps. If they are too long, then they're probably not giving proper support, and the cups may sag. If they're too short, the back of the bra will creep up. If the straps are the right length, the bra cups will be lifted comfortably, and the bra band will stay straight across the middle of the back.

It's important to choose a bra that can be comfortably worn for an entire day. Do the bra strap adjustments fall at the top of the shoulders where they will show under t-shirts and cause pressure when they are carrying a shoulder bag or backpack? Should they choose an underwire bra or one with side stays that may dig into them if they have to sit long hours in a classroom? Underwire bras don't get much love from many women because the underwire jabs them right in the breasts, which are one of the most tender parts of their bodies. Yet the truth is that if they hate them, it's probably because they've never worn one that's the right size for them. Remember it's called an underwire bra for a reason: it's supposed to sit under the breast, not over it.

With the right bra cup size, the under wire will maintain the cup's shape over a long period of time, but the wire itself won't poke anywhere because it's going around the breast, not into it. That's what an under wire is designed to do, fit around the breasts, maintain the cup's shape, and give added support. If the product is used the way it was designed to be, the results are generally good.

Think about a teen sports bra. While they do have a tendency to compress the breast, they offer wonderful support for active teens who are into sports, dancing, etc.

Whichever training bra or preteen lingerie you choose, buy one at a time. The best way to know if it is the right first bra is to wear it for a full day. You never want to have too many teen bras at first, because your bra size is going to change frequently until you are fully grown.
