A survey organized in July of 2010 resulted in the top 7 safety tips for Halloween.

Flashlights: flashlights give you the obvious vision assistance in the dark to avoid holes in the grounds, keeping your family all in one place, and they can be used for flagging someone (E.M.S.) down if needed in an emergency.

Chaperones: It is very advisable for all children under the age of 18 to have a chaperone. Some may say the age limit is a bit over protective. An adult should accompany all children. At the age of 18 you are legally able to make decisions in case of an emergency.

Candy inspection: Prior to all candy consumption parents / adults must inspect candy packages for the following: re-wrapped items, torn packages, any package that is unrecognizable, any unwrapped item, and any package that doesn't look right in general. If there is a doubt through it out.

Camera: Cameras are fun to take pictures of your friends with. Cameras can also be used for documenting an incident of any kind. For example, if a car speeds down a dark side road traveling at a good 65 miles an hour, take out your camera and click a picture of their license plate and turn it in to the police.

Note pad: Again, if a camera is not available, you may use a note pad for documenting information as explained in # 4.

Pepper spray: Pepper spray is easy to use. If you find yourself in a bad situation, pepper spray just may come in handy.

Dress Appropriately: If the forecast is calling for a cold night be sure to dress properly. The last thing your child wants to be on Halloween is sick.
