What Is A Domain Name
A domain name is your personal address on the world wide web. Just like you have a address for your home, you will also have a address for your website. The address people type into their web browser is your domain name. For example, YouTube and twitter are domain names. Your domain name of course will need to be related to your business. This may sound obvious but you would be surprised just how many people purchase a domain name that has nothing to do with their business.
I will give you a true life example. I was once helping someone get started online with their website. They were selling electronics. But instead of purchasing a domain name that had to do with electronics, they purchased their personal name and used it as their domain name. Now there is nothing wrong with that is people associated their name with electronics. But they don't. Instead, they should have bought something that had the word electronics in it. Keywords are very important online. All information that is found, is found due to the keywords someone types in the search box when they are doing a search.
These days, just about every domain name you can think of is already taken. So you have to get creative. Use hyphens if you have to. Or add an extra word to the beginning of the domain. For example, if you company name is electronic shoppe and that name is already taken, you can consider adding the word "the" in front. So it would be the electronic shoppe. If that is taken you can add hyphens so it would look like this, the-electronic-shoppe.com. If that is still taken you can consider using a .net or .info. Its all about being creative and trying to figure out ways around any difficulties you run into.
