With the holidays just around the corner I started doing some shopping
, I know it's still really early yet. One thing that is really easy is the no-sew fleece blankets. They make great gifts, they keep you warm and they're super easy to make.
A nice, soft fleece blanket is a great way to stay warm on a cold night. These cuddly blankets have become extremely popular among people of all ages. You can find blankets made from fleece in all different colors and sizes. They are inexpensive and have a wonderful feel to them. Unlike a wool blanket, fleece is less expensive and easier to clean. Speaking of cleaning, you can simply toss these blankets into the washing machine and then dry them in the dryer. This is different than many other types of blankets that require dry cleaning.
Making fleece blankets is not something which needs a lot of planning and effort. These can easily be made by even the novice sewers. There are a couple of things you need to know about working with fleece. The fleece made of acrylic does not wrinkle as wool fleece and therefore you will not have to iron it often. Moreover acrylic fleece does not unravel and the stitches that you see on the acrylic fleece are mostly an optional measure. It can also be easily machine washed. Fleece is an excellent material to make baby blankets because of its ideal weight to insulin ratio. It retains heat well and is very soft and comfortable.
A fleece blanket is an insulating blanket made of synthetic fiber. They are made in the context of a natural fleece. A polar or micro fleece is the most well known fleece. It is warm, soft and easier to wash. Any product that can be made from wool can also be made with micro fleece. It is of course eco-friendlier than wool as the source is recycled plastic bottles.
A good fleece blanket comes in wide range of textures, some are velvety smooth and others resemble like a felt. The quality depends upon the processing of the material. Micro fleece is the lightest suitable only for light fleece blanket intended to be used as a lining or an underneath to a heavier blanket. Medium weight fleeces are ideal for a blanket used in cold temperatures.
Fleece is not naturally waterproof but only water-resistant. Anything made of fleece must be lined with a fabric that is truly waterproof however; it lacks breathability so it could be extremely hot for its waterproof design.
