How To Book Cheap Holidays
Share: The first thing to remember is if you know where you want to go and when - book early!
If you leave it until the last minute you might find that your preferred flight is full or your accommodation is not available anymore, you may also be lucky and benefit from an early booking discount. However, if flexibility is your middle name, then you are most definitely in the best position to bag yourself a bargain.
The one thing I knew when I was looking for my
cheap holidays in Spain was that I wanted to go all inclusive as the poor exchange rate would mean it would be expensive to eat out, but everything else I was flexible with. If the exchange rate is good it is quite often cheaper to go self catering.
You will need to look at whether you want to build the holiday yourself, or take a package deal, this is where the tour operator organises the flights, transfers and accommodation for you, building your own, means just that...you put the holiday together yourself.
Share: A huge bonus with package holidays is they are usually ATOL (Air Travel Organisers Licensing) protected which means you should get your money back if the holiday company go bust.
During peak periods and school holidays tour operators are less likely to discount as demand is usually higher, avoiding these times is better if you want to save some money.
Flying from airports other than your local one can often save money, even if you have to add on an overnight hotel stay and car parking.
Operators always charge more for car parking if you pay on the gate, always book in advance to save money.
When you have found a holiday check out the other travel agents in your area or look on the internet. If Tour Operators have not filled their allocation of seats and hotel rooms, they still have to pay for them, so this is when they are most likely to discount in order to fill capacity.
Tell them what you have already been quoted but break it down to a per person price, if your cheapest quote is 300 per person, tell them its 290, they will probably drop to 280. Make sure you keep a note of what is included in your holiday in order to compare them properly, for example whether or not flight meals are included, luggage allowance, board basis and room type.
You may get quoted a much lower price only to discover the room type or board basis is different, or it doesnt include flight meals. Your travel agent might try and persuade you to add in-flight meals or extra luggage allowance, but you could save over 100 on a holiday for four by not adding these.
Travel Agents may try to persuade you to add excursions on to your booking, however these are usually cheaper with private companies in resort, just ask fellow holidaymakers for recommendations.
Loosing your cool with an agent who won't give discount will most certainly get you nowhere. Always remain cheerful, friendly and above all polite; after all, you want them to do you a favour.
