CONSTANT PAIN

One fine day (a que for a song there), I was doing a little gardening, not much but enough for me, and I was simply standing, potting a few plants and the pain in my left side was excruciating! No matter how I stood, I was in pain. This was not the gear and I knew it! I figured out that the pain had been with me for quite a few years and that it really was one of those things, you know, part of the job.

I looked at my training and thought that even though I hit my body parts in a very well balanced manner, maybe I had not done enough work on my leg biceps? Could there have been an imbalance that was causing the pain - hmnn, I wondered. So I set about re-routing my training in anyway possible to try and see what it was.How To Avoid Leg Training Injuries - Tips For Bodybuilders

My leg training? I had always kept (and taught I might add) that perfect training style had been ultra important, was this the problem, especially on leg days. No, because bad style would always put pressure on muscle groups that would not be as strong in that particular movement - such as squats.

When squatting, I had always been lucky and been able to keep both heels on the floor for better balance where most needed a block of wood under their heels. This is usually the case when the Achilles' heel is to tight. When this is so, there is very little stretch in that part of the heel and then one has to lean forward to be able to squat. This is bad as the centre of gravity is then way off and that person could cause serious back injuries, or even worse fall forward with the bar. Maybe this was the problem? I would try and squat with a block for a time and see if that was the case! It helped a little for a time, but the pain was still there, and as I have said, more so when NOT squatting now! I was getting worried by now.

TOMMY

One afternoon, my young son Thomas who is 5 going on 50, was in a playful mood and wanted to go jump on my bed while I was taking a shower. He knew he was safe to do this when I was showering as I knew where he was - PLUS he loved trampolining on my bed it is a very hard bed - it had to be, my back was fucking killing me even when I was lying down! Hang on a minute, while I was lying down, having a rest - that cannot be right. A pulled muscle would have healed after such a long time, mine was getting worse. Pulled muscles do not really get worse when there is little to no training! Maybe that was the problem? Look in that area Mick......

I certainly did. What made me think was an accumulation of several factors. One was that I thought that I knew it all - WRONG! The second was when a mate of mine came to see me who had not been training for ages and when he did it was only to see what he could do. He has squatted badly and decided that beer was a better form of sport. However, his pain had been as bad even though he had not took any gear AND not trained.

He had been to see an osteopath the week before and came to see me a few days later. Honestly I could not believe the difference - it was unbelievable. The guy could bend, he could walk normally and he was NOT in any pain at all. What had been the problem in his case?

This is going to sound silly but believe me it was true. His right leg was a good HALF AN INCH shorter than the other leg - no kidding! He had been walking around for the last 6 month literally lob sided - he felt a right prick! He actually said, "i thought there was something wrong when the rain was running down the side of my head and not all sides?" Yeah, I know, he is a cunt! The man had cracked his problem. Now I knew where to look - I hoped.
